A “True” Libertarian

August 13th, 2010

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting it to come out different.”

That quote is credited to Albert Einstein whose wit and style make it possible. It has also been attributed to Ben Franklin, whose wit and style make that also a possibility. The reality is that it was probably not either famous intellectual’s words but is a distinctly American version of an obvious truth. No where do we see doing something the same way under the same conditions returning different results, this is the basis of the scientific method, that affects of actions (reactions) are observable and repeatable. Extending Unemployment Benefits; A Moral Question

July 25th, 2010

Do you believe that it is moral and just for one person to be forcibly used to serve the purposes of another? And, if that person does not peaceably submit to being so used, do you believe that there should be the initiation of some kind of force against him?

I believe our nation’s problems are moral, not just economic. The above is a simple moral question and can be answered with a simple yes or no answer. If you ask this of virtually any politician, you won’t get a straight answer. Read the rest of this entry »

Protecting Florida Sugar Industry Hurts Us All

July 21st, 2010

Protectionist Laws for Florida’s Sugar Industry cost us both dollars and health. In the Journal of Clinical Investigation (May 2009), researchers at the University of California, reported that the widespread use of fructose may be directly responsible for some of the ongoing increase in rates of childhood diabetes and obesity. The protectionist laws for Florida’s Sugar industry (and those subsidies for corn growers in the mid west), have made fructose (corn syrup) a more economical sweetener than glucose (table sugar). $260 Million Florida Tax Dollars Wasted

July 19th, 2010

The News-Press has reported that >“Florida taxpayers and donors have committed $1.6 billion over the past decade to lure research firms – about $800,000 for every employee the companies will eventually hire.”

Those are good paying jobs at around $55K per year, so basically we the people of the state of Florida have paid for all the salaries for over a decade of each employee of the research firms we have tried to entice to come to Florida. Of course most of these jobs are not for local Floridians, but for people we will import into the state to fill the jobs. Read the rest of this entry »

Pollsters Create Paradox for Third Party Candidates

Pollsters Create Paradox for Third Party Candidates
by Adrian Wyllie, Editor

In the modern life cycle of a political election, it is easy to identify the one hurdle third party candidates usually stumble upon. And it is one hurdle over which they have absolutely no control: The pollsters.

In what has become the benchmark for candidate viability, major pollsters, such as Zogby, Quinnipiac, and Rasmussen, are the gatekeepers for third party and independent political office seekers. If a candidate is excluded from the polls, they are excluded from the debates, the candidate forums, and from media coverage as a whole. Read the rest of this entry »

SCOTUS Rules Second Amendment is Fundamental Individual Right

June 29th, 2010

Monday June 28, 2010 the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) ruled that Chicago’s blanket ban against owning handguns to be unconstitutional. Writing for the majority Justice Samuel Alito says, “The right to keep and bear arms must be regarded as a substantive guarantee, not a prohibition that could be ignored so long as the States legislated in an evenhanded manner.”

The case, McDonald v. Chicago, challenged a 7th Circuit court ruling that said the Second Amendment applies only to federal regulation of an individual’s right to guns and not in cases of restrictions by states and municipalities. The SCOTUS overturned this ruling agreeing with the plaintiff’s argument that “the right of the people to keep and bear arms” in the Second Amendment is “incorporated” into the 14th Amendment and applies to both states and localities.
